The Carolina Green Industry Network believes that we all have an incredible obligation to maintain best practices. It’s our belief that we should protect storm drains, creeks and river streams, reduce pollution, and reduce the amount of energy necessary to maintain healthy turfgrass. We should be at the forefront of the communication stream explaining expectations and horticultural practices in order to grow, sustain and reproduce turf.
Turf types in our area include Fescue, Bermuda, Zoysia, Centipede, Ryegrass, Bluegrass, and St. Augustine. In its truest form, turf consists of a single variety which is maintained by a specific set of recommendations that allow environmental conditions to dictate maintenance practices and processes. All varieties of turf are closely tied and connected to water management. Each turf type can be affected by different diseases and insects or even specific difficult to control weeds. There are often certain conditions such as shade, weather, and use or traffic that can increase or decrease over time.
Members within CGIN consider all of the above mentioned factors within their programs. They share best practices. CGIN provides continuous education for its members in order to improve value to the consumer. Members provide leadership throughout the community as spokespersons for the turf profession. We are environmentally sensitive while understanding that there is an aesthetic and monetary value in the market place that must be balanced.
