2021 CGIN Service Project
Union County Ag Center - Demo Garden
|
The CGIN group comes together for a Service Project every two years which is usually some sort of hardscape design with an installation of around 500 square feet. The purpose of the Service Project is three-fold - to give back to the community where we work, to promote public awareness of CGIN, and to provide a hands-on learning experience for our members and their employees.
For the year 2021 the Union County Extension Master Gardener (EMG) Teaching Garden in Monroe was selected and received a paver walk that begins at Cultivation Circle and extends to one of the woodland garden entrances. The paver walk from the street is easily accessible from the Union County Agricultural Event Center making it easy for folks who are attending events to visit the Teaching Garden while onsite. Companies who contributed materials, equipment, food and drinks, and employee time for the for this CGIN Service Project include: Arborguard Tree Specialists, Bartlett Tree Experts, Carolina Greenscapes of Matthews, Howard's Fertilizer, Husqvarna, KC's Lawn Service, Mecklenburg County Extension, The Morgan Group, SiteOne, STI, Union County Extension, and Yellowstone Landscape. The project is valued at $10,000.00 and greatly enhances the accessibility to the Teaching Garden. A big THANK YOU goes out to all the CGIN members who contributed to this effort! The Teaching Garden is free and open for the public to visit from dawn to dusk 365 days per year. Components of the Teaching Garden include a Cottage Garden (sunny garden), a Woodland Garden, and walking trails. There are benches and picnic tables scattered throughout the Teaching Garden. Bring your family for a visit or a picnic and take a stroll on the new paver walk. I believe you will think it is as wonderful as I do! The Ag Center is located at 3230 Presson Rd, Monroe. |
